At WSP, you can access our global scale, contribute to landmark projects and connect with the brightest minds in your field to do the best work of your life. You can embrace your curiosity in a culture that celebrates new ideas and diverse perspectives.

You can experience a world of opportunity and the chance to shape a career as unique as you.

A Little More About Your Role...

Working alongside experienced safety professionals and multidisciplinary engineering teams, you will support the delivery of safety engineering and assurance activities throughout the project lifecycle.

You will gain exposure to established industry standards and approaches, including EN50126, EN50129, IEC 61508 and CSM-RA, developing your technical knowledge through practical project experience.

You will contribute to work across major infrastructure projects, signalling and new technologies, supporting clients with safety assurance, approvals and the introduction of new systems and products.

As your experience grows, you will have the opportunity to take greater responsibility for defined technical activities and work packages, build relationships with clients and stakeholders, and further develop your technical and consultancy skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of safety engineering and assurance services across a range of rail engineering projects.
  • Apply appropriate safety methods and tools, with support from experienced colleagues, in line with relevant standards such as EN50126, EN50129, IEC 61508 and CSM-RA.
  • Contribute to safety assurance activities for major infrastructure, signalling and other rail projects.
  • Support safety approvals and CSM activities, helping project teams to develop and maintain appropriate safety evidence.
  • Contribute to safety assurance activities for new products and technologies, which may include high-speed points systems, axle counters and other signalling systems.
  • Assist with the preparation and review of safety documentation, technical reports and project deliverables.
  • Work collaboratively with clients, engineers and other technical specialists to understand project requirements and support successful outcomes.
  • Contribute to proposals and bids, helping to develop your understanding of the commercial and consultancy aspects of our work.
  • Build positive working relationships with clients and industry stakeholders.
  • Manage your own activities and priorities across projects, with guidance and support from senior colleagues.
  • Take an active role in your own professional development and build your knowledge of rail safety engineering and assurance.

What We'd Like You To Demonstrate…

  • A relevant engineering, technical or safety-related qualification, or equivalent experience within a relevant industry.
  • Knowledge or experience of safety engineering, safety assurance or systems engineering within rail or another safety-critical environment.
  • An understanding of, or an interest in developing experience with, standards and approaches such as EN50126, EN50129, IEC 61508 and CSM-RA.
  • Some exposure to safety assurance, safety approvals, risk assessment or related activities through employment, placements, academic study or project work.
  • An interest in developing knowledge of rail infrastructure, signalling systems and emerging rail technologies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly with colleagues, clients and other stakeholders.
  • The ability to work collaboratively as part of multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage priorities across different activities.
  • A proactive approach to learning and a desire to develop your technical and consultancy skills.
  • An interest in undertaking varied and challenging work across different projects and clients.
  • Flexibility to support projects in the UK and, where appropriate, internationally.
